On July 2 2019, the 46th Parliament of Australia opened for business. This a big part of the reason for returning to Canberra for the elected government of the day to hear our industry voice.
No matter where you are based in Australia, the nature of the traditional passenger transport service paradigm is being challenged. New entrants to the mobility market and increasing expectations of customers are key determinants of people transportation - a bus is no longer just a ‘bus’ delivering people from A to B. In Australia, the role of the federal government in our cities and regions in relation to public transport and connectivity, is key to shaping future sustainability and liveability of our communities.
Governments and Industry are looking at what future mobility might look like and this conference will focus on the role of public transport and bus services in a future intelligent mobility world. Industry sees a closer partnership with the federal government to manage the transition to new platforms that connect mobility options for the community and customers and smoothing the transition to electrification and automation.
Anyone involved in the mobility chain, not just operators and suppliers, but also government agencies, planners, academics and politicians in the transport, infrastructure, cities and regions space, are invited to attend the conference in Canberra and actively engage in the discussions on shaping public and social transit services. Your voice as a representative of your industry or business in your community can make a significant impact so we need you to get involved in Canberra and make a difference.
The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development will also be at the conference to engage with bus operators on their National Heavy Vehicle Charging Pilot program. The National Pilot is an innovative industry partnership that is testing potential direct road user charging options for heavy vehicles through a series of On-Road Trials. A Large Scale On-Road Trial is planned to commence in 2020 and the federal government is seeking participants of all sizes from the Bus Industry across all states and territories. Representatives from the Department will be at the conference to talk with interested bus operators. Information about the National Pilot can be found online at: www.infrastructure.gov.au/nationalpilot.
